Meet Derek

I’m Derek Hawn, and I’m running for Congress because I believe in the power of community, hard work, and leadership that puts people first. Born and raised right here in Tennessee, I’ve spent my life serving the people of our district—as a first responder, educator, and advocate for progress.

A Life Dedicated to Service

For over 20 years, I’ve worked on the front lines of emergency medical services (EMS) and fire services, responding to crises and protecting our neighbors. These experiences taught me the value of quick thinking, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to others—qualities I will bring to Congress every single day.

As the Clinical and Educational Coordinator for Roane County EMS, I’ve helped train the next generation of first responders while working tirelessly to improve public safety. My role as a Dual Credit Instructor at Roane State Community College has allowed me to teach high school students life-saving skills, preparing them for success while fostering resilience in our community.

Deep Roots in Our District

I’m proud to call Tennessee home. From my early days attending school in Morgan County to my involvement with organizations like the Tennessee Cattleman’s Association and the Morgan County Genealogical and Historical Society, I’ve always been deeply connected to the values and traditions that make our district special. These ties have shaped my understanding of the challenges we face—and my belief in our potential to overcome them together.

Why I’m Running

Throughout my career, I’ve seen firsthand how broken systems impact real lives. Whether it’s families struggling with healthcare costs, students lacking resources in schools, or small businesses navigating an unfair economy, I’ve listened to your stories—and I’m ready to fight for solutions.

I’m running for Congress because we need leaders who understand our struggles and are committed to delivering results. My priorities include:
