Investing in Education

Every child deserves access to a high-quality education, no matter where they live or how much money their family makes. Education is the foundation of opportunity and one of the most powerful tools we have to create a stronger, more equitable society. But for too many children, the quality of their education is determined by their zip code. That’s unacceptable, and we need to fix it.

It starts with fully funding public schools—especially in underserved communities that have been left behind for far too long. Public schools need updated facilities, smaller class sizes, and access to modern technology. I will fight to increase federal funding for public education and ensure low-income and rural schools get the resources they need. Teachers are the backbone of our education system, yet they are underpaid and undervalued. I support raising teacher pay so educators are fairly compensated and investing in professional development programs to help them succeed.

Higher education should be a pathway to opportunity—not a financial burden. I support making community college tuition-free so students can earn a degree or certificate without being crushed by debt. For those pursuing four-year degrees, I’ll fight to expand Pell Grants to cover more tuition costs and help middle-class families afford college. I also support allowing borrowers to refinance student loans at lower interest rates and forgiving student debt for those who work in public service or underserved areas.

But not every student wants or needs a four-year degree, which is why I strongly support trade schools and vocational programs as essential pathways to success. Skilled trades like plumbing, carpentry, welding, and advanced manufacturing offer good-paying jobs with long-term stability. I’ll work to expand funding for trade schools, apprenticeships, and career and technical education (CTE) programs in high schools so students can explore these opportunities early on.

Finally, we need to address the basic needs of students so they can focus on learning. Too many children come to school hungry or without stable housing. Expanding school meal programs and wraparound services like counseling and after-school programs will ensure every child has the support they need.

Investing in education is one of the smartest investments we can make as a country. By fully funding public schools, raising teacher pay, making higher education affordable, and expanding opportunities through trade schools and vocational training, we can create an education system that works for everyone—not just a privileged few.
